Have you ever felt the tug to take care of your health while also longing to grow spiritually? That’s exactly where I found myself recently. What started as a simple thought- what if I aligned my wellness goals with my walk with God? has turned into a new journey of fasting that’s shaping not just my body, but also my soul and spirit.

This past week, a thought came to me: What if I align my health goals with a deeper spiritual discipline? That single thought led me to start a new chapter – an intermittent fasting journey.
The 18:6 Method and My Intentions
I’ve adopted the 18:6 method: 18 hours of fasting followed by a 6 hour eating window. For me, it’ s not just about skipping meals, it’s about living with intentionality.
My goals are twofold:
- For my body: I’m aiming for weight loss and improved health. I needed a structure, sustainable way to manage my eating habits.
- For my spirit: I see fasting as a discipline to quiet the demands of the flesh so I can focus more on God. It’s a practice that helps me listen, pray and draw closer to Him.
An Unexpected Breakthrough
I’ll be honest. My past attempts at spiritual fasting were difficult. Hunger pangs and temptations usually made me quit early.
But this time, something feels different. I’m only three days in, yet I already notice a shift. Instead of weakness, I feel lightness. Instead of frustration, i feel peace, And surprisingly, I want to keep going.
The benefits are already showing up:
- Physically: My body is spending less energy on digestion.
- Mentally: My mind feels clearer and less preoccupied with food.
- Spiritually: That clarity is fueling a deeper, more focused prayer life.
Reflections on God’s Vastness and Intimacy
Fasting has given me perspective. It reminds me of how vast and powerful God is:
“God is so big, so vast -beyond our imagination”
We’re like ants compared to His greatness. Yet, here’s the miracle: the God of the universe desires an intimate, personal relationship with us. He knows us completely, even the number of hairs on our head.
He knows us, He sees us, and He cares about us.”
This truth builds my faith and strengthens my trust in His provision. If he cares for the smallest details of our life, surely we can trust Him with our needs. Scripture reassures us:
- “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
- “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)
And then, one of my favorite reminder:
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20)
A Lesson from Nature
For an ant, finding a single grain of food is securing its future for the entire winter. It’s survival, security, and hope all wrapped up in that tiny speck. In the same way, when we bring our requests before God, what feels monumental to us is only like a grain in His eyes. From the vastness of His abundance, one grain is nothing. And yet, He gladly provides it, because His resources are limitless, and His love is personal.
This truth humbles me and strengthens my faith. God is not strained by my requests. He is not running short or holding back, His Word reminds us:
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
If He clothe the lilies of the field and feed the sparrows of the air, how much more will He provide for us, His Children? (Matthew 6:26-30)
Fasting has reminded me that my needs may look big to me, but they are never too big for Him. Just as the ant trusts that grain for the winter, I can trust God for everything knowing that from His Hand, provision is never lacking. Fasting is a discipline that shapes both body and spirit. It’s about surrendering control in one area of life to draw nearer to the One who controls everything. This journey has only just begun, but already it feels like a gift. I’m eager to see where God leads me through it, and I’m grateful for the peace, perspective, and closeness I’ve experienced so far.
